We had a basement remodel project and I can't recommend Michael James enough. We spoke with several contractors and it was very apparent upon speaking with Michael and his team that they would provide the quality and service we were looking for. They have a great process from initial consultation through design and construction. They took care of everything and managed the project perfectly. They finished the project a week earlier than the proposed timeline and everything appeared to go smoothly from our perspective. They communicated consistently throughout the project so we always knew what to expect. Again, I can't recommend them highly enough!

Michael James, Jenni, Edgar and the MJ team of subs provided us with an exceptional experience for our primary bath renovation. We were delighted with the outcome and are still commenting to each other how much we love our new bathroom. Michael worked hard to make the zero entry shower a reality for us, Jenni worked diligently to have all the subs lined up and ready to go. Edgar provided his magic touch making the odd frustrations that come with a renovation "fixable." Somehow he got it done! Communication was top notch as we would receive a text notifying us who would be arriving that day. The process flowed and I know that took a lot of planning on their part. I would highly recommend Michael James Remodeling.

We’ve used Michael James Remodeling on two extensive projects - expansion of our living/dining area and total renovation of our primary bathroom. On both occasions MJ and team did an outstanding job. This is a top notch set of professionals dedicated to listening to their customers, focused on detail, quality craftsmanship, timeliness and fully managing and enhancing an entire remodeling project from your first call into the office to the final walkthrough and beyond. I’ve engaged multiple contractors before (meaning those that actually show up or return your call) but MJ and team are hands down unequivocally the best. You will not regret contacting them, it will be a very positive experience. If you desire quality work, look no further.

We had a wonderful experience working with Michael and his entire team as they rebuilt our deck. They listened to what we wanted and gave us the beautiful outdoor space we’d hoped for, despite some of the challenges our project offered. The work was completed on a timely basis, and they always made sure to leave the workspace clean, and as usable as possible as the project progressed. We will definitely contact them again for future projects.

Kitchen Remodeling in Alpharetta

Kitchen Redesign in Alpharetta, Built Around How You Live

A lot of Alpharetta homes were built when a closed-off kitchen and a formal dining room nobody uses were standard. Today the kitchen is where homework, coffee, and Friday night company all land at once.

That is the gap we design for. If you are searching for a kitchen redesign near me in Alpharetta, the question is rarely "what looks nice." It is "why does a house this size have a kitchen this cramped?"

We start with how your household cooks, hosts, and moves through the room. Then we draw the layout, and then we build it. Want the full picture of how we approach kitchens? See our kitchen remodeling services.

These ranges are approximate. Every kitchen is priced to its own project. Size, materials, layout changes, and what is behind the walls all move the number, so you get a real price tied to your plan before you sign anything.

Most of the swing comes from a few choices: how much of the layout changes, what the cabinets and counters are made of, and how much hidden work shows up once demo starts. We lay those out in the next section so nothing surprises you.

A smaller update is the right call for some Alpharetta homeowners. If that is your project, we will say so, even if it means pointing you elsewhere.

What Moves the Number

Five Things That Decide What Your Kitchen Costs

  1. Moving walls. Opening a kitchen to the family room can mean a beam, new framing, and engineering. It is often the biggest single swing.
  2. Moving plumbing and gas. A sink or range in a new spot means new lines, new venting, and a permit.
  3. Cabinetry. Stock, semi-custom, and fully custom are different budgets and different lead times.
  4. Countertops and the island. Material, thickness, and size add up fast, especially on a large island.
  5. What is behind the walls. Old wiring, soft subfloors, and hidden water damage show up once demo starts.

How Long Will It Take

Four Steps From First Call to Finished Kitchen

Every kitchen is different, so you get a real schedule before you sign. Cabinet lead times and inspections are what stretch a timeline most.

1

Discovery

We start with how you cook, host, and move through the room. Then we come see the space in person.

2

Design Development

You see real renderings of your kitchen, layout and all, before we touch a single cabinet. Changes are easy on paper.

3

Execution

Demo, rough-in for plumbing and electrical, then cabinets, counters, and finishes. The work behind the walls gets the same care as the work you see.

4

Fulfillment

A full walkthrough, a real cleanup, and a check-in after the cabinets are in and you have lived with the room.

Can We Still Live Here

Your House Stays a House, Not a Job Site

The Kitchen Goes Offline, Not the Whole House

The work zone is the kitchen. We talk through how you will cook and eat during the project before it starts, so there are no surprises on day one.

Clean House Protection

Floors get covered, dust gets contained, and the crew cleans up before they leave every day.

One Lead Carpenter

You get a dedicated lead carpenter and project manager from day one. You are never explaining your kitchen twice.

No Mystery Behind the Walls

You get real updates at every stage, not just when something goes sideways.

Start With a Conversation About Your Kitchen

Free, no pressure, and you will hear the real cost and timeline before you sign anything.

Do I Need a Permit

Permits, Inspections, and Your HOA

Moving a sink, adding a circuit, relocating a gas line, or taking out a wall usually means a permit and an inspection. New paint and a cabinet swap in the same footprint usually do not.

Not every Alpharetta address answers to the same office. Some fall under the City of Alpharetta, and others sit under a neighboring county. We figure out which, and we handle the paperwork so you are not the one chasing it.

Many Alpharetta neighborhoods also have an HOA with its own review process for exterior and structural changes. Check yours before demo, and tell us early so we can build the approval time into your schedule.

Quick Permit Check

✓Usually needs a permit: moving plumbing or gas, adding circuits, taking out a wall.
✓Usually needs HOA review: exterior changes and structural work, in many neighborhoods.
–Usually does not: a same-footprint cabinet swap and fresh paint.

Rules depend on your address. We confirm before work starts.

Where We Build

Kitchen Remodeling Across Alpharetta, Area by Area

A kitchen in a 1990s lake community and a kitchen in a newer townhome ask for different things. Here is what we tend to look for in each part of town.

Downtown Alpharetta and Old Milton Parkway

Closer-in streets near City Center and the Big Creek Greenway. Older floor plans often box the kitchen in, so opening it up starts with finding out which walls carry load.

Windward

A master-planned community near Windward Community Park, with many homes from the 1990s and 2000s. Big houses, but the kitchens are often builder-grade and closed off from the family room.

Avalon and Haynes Bridge Road

Newer construction, so the layout is usually sound. The upgrade here is function and finish: better storage, better counters, and a room that feels less like a model home.

Country Club of the South Area

Larger homes around Country Club of the South, where the kitchen has to host crowds. Think a bigger island, paneled appliances, and a pantry that actually holds the party.

Kimball Bridge and Brookshire

Established neighborhoods where the house is solid and the kitchen has not kept up. Often the right project is a rethink of the layout, not just new cabinet fronts.

North Alpharetta

The northern edge of town, toward Milton and Forsyth County. Looking beyond the kitchen? See our North Alpharetta remodeling page.

Talking About Money

We Talk Budget Early, Because It Shapes the Design

A kitchen plan built without a number in mind turns into a redesign later. We would rather get it right the first time.

You Hear a Real Number First

No lowball range that turns into change orders. You get an honest picture of what your kitchen will take.

Bring Your Budget to the First Conversation

Even a rough range helps. It tells us where to spend and where to hold back.

How You Pay Can Shape the Plan

Whether you pay all at once or plan to phase the work, tell us early. It changes how we sequence the project.

Common Questions

Alpharetta Kitchen Remodeling FAQ

Our approximate ranges are $15,000 to $30,000 for a minor refresh, $30,000 to $75,000 for a mid-range remodel, and $75,000 to $150,000 or more for a major upscale renovation. These are approximate, and every kitchen is priced to its own project. You will hear a real number early, before anything gets signed.
Yes. We design and build kitchens for Alpharetta homeowners, from full redesigns and custom cabinetry to new layouts and structural changes. We work out of our Gainesville headquarters and our Alpharetta office, so a kitchen remodeler near you is closer than it looks.
Timelines depend on scope, cabinet lead times, and inspections. We give you a real schedule before you sign. The kitchen is the work zone, and the rest of your home stays livable. We talk through how you will cook and eat during the project before it starts.
Usually, if the project moves plumbing, gas, or electrical, or changes a wall. A same-footprint cabinet swap and fresh paint generally do not. Which office issues the permit depends on your address. We figure that out and handle the paperwork.
Yes, we do both. A kitchen redesign is the planning side: the layout, cabinetry, lighting, and finishes drawn out before anything is built. A remodel is the build. We do both under one roof, so your kitchen gets built the way it was drawn. You will see real renderings before we touch a cabinet.
Often, yes, but the first step is finding out what the wall is holding up. If it is load-bearing, it needs a beam and proper support, and that changes the budget. We sort that out in design, before you commit to anything.
For most of our clients, yes. You use the kitchen every day, so the value shows up every morning. If you do sell later, a remodeled kitchen typically returns about fifty to seventy percent of its cost.
Ask about license, insurance, and who actually runs your job day to day. Ask to see finished kitchens and read real reviews. Get a detailed scope in writing. Our guide on how to choose a remodeling contractor in North Georgia covers the full checklist.
Start with a conversation. Tell us what is not working and how your household uses the room. The first conversation is free. If it feels right, we come see the space, measure, and plan together.

Tell us how your kitchen works, and how you wish it did. We will listen first, then work out the rest together.

The first conversation is free. You will hear the real cost and timeline before you sign anything.
